Food Safety Certification Officer, North Oxfordshire

SALSA (Safe and Local Supplier Approval) is a nationally-recognised, non profit-making food safety certification scheme, for the UK’s smaller food & drink businesses. Above all else, we exist to encourage and support the development of effective food safety management practices and controls amongst our members.

Working as part of a close team to support SALSA’s wider operational functions, the Certification Officer role is to review and follow up on audit reports, support businesses through the approval process and make decisions on awarding certification.  Further responsibilities include:  

  • Liaison: receiving and handling member, auditor, trainer and mentor queries
  • Responding to and resolving enquiries regarding audits, certification and membership
  • Maintaining standards; balancing quality of decision-making, output and timeliness
  • Preparation and organisation of SALSA training courses, seminars and webinars
  • Preparing documentation to support governance and technical advisory meetings

Qualifications & Experience:  The successful candidate will hold a food-related degree (or equivalent) and have experience in a relevant food technical role.  

Skills:  Good office software skills are essential, together with excellent organisational, decision-making, verbal and written communication skills.  Presentation of work, an agile mind and attention to detail are key personal attributes we are looking for.

Terms: The position holder will report to the SALSA Certification Manager. The position is full-time (Monday-Friday) with a salary in the region of £25-30K FTE, commensurate with hours, skills and experience, 32 days’ annual leave (incl. Bank holidays), company pension scheme, an excellent working environment with on-site gym and ample free parking.
